GPLOT recipes: A black and white panel



The displayed mosaic of plots demonstrates the use of gray scales and contours. Data from files and GIPSY sets is used. Overlays are also demonstrated.

GPLOT macro file:

This panel demonstrates how data from different sources can be plotted in a mosaic. You can see how data is assigned to a column variable and how this data can be manipulated using expressions. Note that you cannot abbreviate column variable names in expressions.

Note that the order of plotting grayscales and contours is important. In a PostScript file the contours are plotted with PostScript commands, but a grayscale is a PostScript image. Everything plotted in a box before the grayscale will be erased. So plot the grayscale first and add contours later.

Trick:

Next commands need an explanation. The user wants a gray scale plot with contours. For PostScript it is necessary to plot the gray scales first and then the contours. But this user knows exactly which part of (sub)set f5611.hi.rep.klein (a set with a param axis with length 1), he wants to display. However, the gray scales originate from a different set rotf5611r_f and must be plotted first. So what he does is read set f5611.hi.rep.klein first, set scales with box, xsize and ysize. Then read set rotf5611r_f and adjust its box with overbox so that it fits in the box of the previous set. Then plot the gray scales, set overlay mode to off and read data from the first set f5611.hi.rep.klein to draw the contours.
