Acting Director of the CSIRO Australia Telescope National Facility

Dr Lewis Ball took
up the position of Acting Director of the CSIRO Australia Telescope National
Facility in early 2009. He was formerly Deputy Director of ATNF from 2005.

Dr Ball completed his PhD at the University of Sydney. He has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Swedish Institute of Space Physics (IRF),and at the Special Research Centre for Theoretical Astrophysics (RCfTA) at Sydney University where he then held an ARC QEII Fellowship.

In 2001 Lewis joined CSIRO's Australia Telescope National Facility to take up the role of Deputy Officer in Charge of the Parkes Observatory, and also had responsibility for Strategic Human Resources management for the ATNF from 2002-2005.

Dr Ball's principal research interests are in the areas of radio supernovae, particle acceleration at shocks and gamma-ray emission from inverse Compton scattering in pulsar winds.
