The Radio Wavelength Reflection Properties of Icy Surfaces in the Solar System and the Search for Lunar Ice - Don Campbell colloquium

High powered radar systems on the Arecibo 305 m telescope and the NASA/DSN 70 m
Goldstone antenna are used for studies of the Moon and terrestrial planets,
near-Earth and mainbelt asteroids and the icy satellites of Jupiter and Saturn.
After a general introduction to the instrumentation, techniques and some current
research, I will discuss the radio wavelength reflection properties of icy
surfaces and our search for ice deposits at the lunar poles using high
resolution, multi-polarization radar observations of the Moon with Arecibo and
the 100 m Green Bank Telescope. I will finish with some thoughts on the use of
the SKA for solar system radar studies.
