Distant Molecular Clouds - Dr. Christian Henkel Colloquium

Dense cool interstellar gas that is forming stars, shaping the morphology
of galaxies and fueling active galactic nuclei can now be observed
in locations that were unaccessible only a few years ago. Beginning
with a dense cloud associated with the core of an FRII radio galaxy,
results from multi-line surveys of molecular clouds at intermediate
redshifts are presented. These are based on data obtained at Effelsberg,
the GBT and the PdBI. Finally, CO observations of highly redshifted
sources, measured during the last (northern) winter at the 30-m telescope
at Pico Veleta, are summarized.
