The Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF), CSIRO, seeks an experienced individual with strong Electronic/RF engineering, management and staff leadership experience and excellent communication skills to provide leadership of engineering staff and apply proven Electronic/RF Engineering expertise towards key engineering projects.
This core engineering group is responsible for the design and fabrication of instrumentation for application in the field of radio astronomy, specifically radio telescope receivers and frequency conversion systems.
The successful applicant will manage this world renowned group of skilled engineers and technicians, develop the group to meet future requirements in a rapidly expanding and highly stimulating project environment and will participate as required in project management and/or the application of engineering expertise.
The successful candidate will hold appropriate tertiary qualifications and relevant work experience with demonstrated strong strategic and tactical skills in the field of electronic engineering and management. They will have a track record, or be able to demonstrate potential, for group management and development of engineers and technicians in a scientific, engineering or similar environment. Sound experience in the successful management of people and budgets, and excellent communication skills are essential.
As one of the worldб’s leading astronomical facilities, the ATNF has an international reputation for the successful development of astronomical instrumentation both for its own telescopes and for other international observatories. It operates two major radio telescope sites at Narrabri and Parkes with a smaller telescope near Coonabarabran, and is currently engaged in delivering the Australian SKA Pathfinder (ASKAP), the next generation radio astronomy facility to be built in Western Australia.
