1. Presentations from SKA Forum, Cape Town (25 February 2009) The SKA Forum 2009 presentations and interviews are now available on the International SKA website. Ministers announce Australian ­ South African SKA partnership Mr Mosibudi Mangena, South African Government Minister for Science and Technology and Senator Kim Carr, Australian Government Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research today confirmed the high priority which both Governments give to the planned Square Kilometre Array (SKA) radio telescope. This brief describes the delivery of the digital signal processing systems for ASKAP and contains some more detail on the scope of the expected involvement of industry. Secondment/Appointment of Phil Crosby (CSIRO ATNF) to Manager ­ Industry Participation Strategy within SPDO We are very pleased to announce that Phil Crosby from CSIRO ATNF will be seconded to the SKA Program Development Office (SPDO), based at the University of Manchester, UK, from early April 2009. Many of you will have met Phil over the past 2 years and will know that his expertise in industry engagement will be invaluable in the successful planning of the SKA strategy. Phil will be working closely with the leaders of PrepSKA work package 5 (industry and procurement) as well as the rest of the SPDO team. Phil's email after 7 April will be crosby@skatelescope.org 6. Power solutions for ASKAP/SKA For those attending the Cape Town discussions it was clear that this is a `hot' topic for the SKA pathfinders and for the SKA itself. We have had many enquiries on the status of the power solution planning for ASKAP. At this stage we are preparing a public brief on the power solution required for ASKAP. Once this is circulated, we expect to undertake a cost and technology evaluation. 8.
