SKA news for Australian Industry: 8 December 08
1. Computing `Single Digital Backend' ­ information now available We have updated the ASKAP Computing web page to include an overview of the Single Digital Backend system development ­ please see http://www.atnf.csiro.au/projects/askap/computing.html We intend to publish a Call for Expressions of Interest in collaborating with ASKAP to develop a Single Digital Backend during Q1 2009: Please note that further announcements will be made via this `SKA industry news' email list. The EOI will be posted on AusTender. 2. Data Transport ­ ASKAP requirements A draft of an IEEE conference paper describing ASKAP's photonic requirements by Ron Beresford is now available at http://www.atnf.csiro.au/projects/askap/data_transport.html This gives an overview of the system requirements for the data transport systems. We are very grateful to those companies who have lent systems which we've been testing in our labs. Any other companies with suitable devices which they are prepared to loan to the ASKAP project for testing and evaluation are invited to contact us now. 3. ASKAP Public Works Committee recommendation to Parliament approved: 3 December 2008 We are very pleased to report that the House of Representatives Public Works Committee approved the development of ASKAP on 3 December 2008. 4. 5. Industry Opportunities Update: Fibre Optic procurements for MRO The Industry Opportunities Register will shortly be updated online to reflect any revisions to the project timeline. We can advise however, that the Fibre Optic-related procurements (RFTs on AusTender) are now planned for release during Q1 2009.
