Subject: ATCA Centimetre Receiver Upgrade Science Case



The accompanying document contains the current science case for the ATCA
Centimetre Receiver Upgrade. The science case is an evolving document and
I would appreciate ATUC suggestions for science items to be included. I
have included below several directed questions to ATUC about the proposed
upgrade. The upgrade is designed to take advantage of the CABB and is
therefore slated for completion by the end of 2007.



Questions to ATUC:


. Does ATUC consider the proposed upgrade valuable?
. Does ATUC have any comments on the proposed frequency ranges of 1-3
GHz and 4 - 12 GHz?
. Does ATUC have any specific suggestions for items to be included in
the science case?
. Does ATUC have any comments on whether the possibility of new
feedhorns should be pursued, keeping in mind that this would
significantly increase the cost and timescale of the project and that
it may not be possible focus with the subreflector?
. Would ATUC be satisfied with the insertion of notch filters for RFI at
the price of an increase in the overall system temperature?
