Wide-angle tail radio galaxy in Abell 3627
by Bärbel Koribalski (CASS)
At the centre of the Norma Cluster (Abell 3627), which is located in the middle of the Great Attractor overdensity, lies the wide-angle tail galaxy PKS B1610-608. The above image shows the extended 20-cm radio continuum emission, mapped using archival data from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). The two tails, which are shaped by the surrounding intracluster medium, span about 400 kpc on the sky. Abell 3627 is a rich cluster with about 5 × 1015 solar masses and is a strong X-ray emitter.
