| This months speaker will be Monica Young from Sky and Telescope who will be talking to us about Black Holes which are one of the inherent mysteries of the universe. But even though we can't ever travel to a black hole and poke around, we can learn an awful lot by studying them from a safe distance. Gorging supermassive black holes shine like beacons from the distant universe, millions of stellar mass black holes inhabit our galaxy, and a dormant beast that slumbers in the center of our galaxy may soon wake up for a snack. In this talk you will get a broad overview of what is known about black holes today and hear a bit about their ultimate fate.
Please join us for a pre-meeting dinner discussion at Changsho, 1712 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA at 6:00pm before the meeting. |
