THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A HEAVY SNOW
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 11 PM
EST THIS EVENING. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
A SHORT DURATION BUT POTENTIALLY HIGH IMPACT SNOWFALL WILL AFFECT
NORTHERN MASSACHUSETTS AND SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE THURSDAY AFTERNOON
INTO THURSDAY EVENING. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 10 INCHES ARE
EXPECTED WITH THE HEAVIEST AMOUNTS IN NORTHERN MASSACHUSETTS.
MOST OF THE SNOW WILL FALL IN A 6 HOUR PERIOD. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO
DEVELOP AROUND NOON IN THE CONNECTICUT VALLEY...SPREADING EAST ACROSS
NORTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS AND SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE DURING THE EARLY
AFTERNOON. THE SNOW MAY BE HEAVY FOR A TIME DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON
OR EARLY EVENING...MAKING FOR A SLOW AND DIFFICULT EVENING COMMUTE.
THE SNOW SHOULD QUICKLY TAPER OFF FROM WEST TO EAST BETWEEN 7 AND
10 PM THURSDAY EVENING.
A HEAVY SNOW WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN AN AVERAGE OF 6 OR MORE INCHES
OF SNOW IS EXPECTED IN A 12 HOUR PERIOD OR FOR 8 OR MORE INCHES IN A
24 HOUR PERIOD. TRAVEL WILL BE SLOW AT BEST ON WELL TREATED
SURFACES...AND QUITE DIFFICULT ON ANY UNPLOWED OR UNTREATED SURFACES.
