Last panoramic mosaic of comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 (SL-9) taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. The comet had broken into 21 fragments, all of which impacted Jupiter in mid-July of 1994. This image was taken on 17 May 1994 through the red filter of the Wide-Field Planetary Camera 2. At this time, the comet was about 660 million km from Earth. The comet fragments stretch across 1.1 million km of space. (HST, STScI-PR94-26d)
