In 1985, a group was established at our institute, with the aim of using the technique of lunar occultations in the near IR for high angular resolution. Since then, a program of LO observations is active at the TIRGO Observatory. In parallel, numerous collaborations have been established, with several other observatories and researchers in the world. The current archive includes several hundreds occultations. The results cover the fields of binary stars (both on the main sequence and among young stellar objects), stellar angular diameters and circumstellar envelopes.

Observations are carried out almost exclusively in the near IR, by means either of fast InSb photometers such as FIRT and FIRPO, or of Nicmos-based IR cameras which can be read out at high speed in a subarray, such as ARNICA and MAGIC.
