 - fasti is seen from the outside as a single address on a fast
       (may be dedicated) ethernet network.

 - It is enclosed in a rack and uses standard, broadly available parts.
   
 - The data acquisition board
       
 - this board is a general purpose fast parallel acquisition board.
       It is bound to be a PCI bus board.
