Alan Mead – amead@soltec.net - massive editing (many, many corrections), also tried to teach me about the proper use of the apostrophe (when it comes to written language and grammar I am incredibly bad).

Contributions

Contributions of URL’s and pointers to resources and programs I haven’t listed are welcome. If you wish to contribute written material, edits, or other work to the LASG please email me at seifried@seifried.org. Generally speaking if it’s good and I haven’t already written it, it will end up in the LASG, and you will be listed as a contributor.

PGP Keys:

Please note I use this key for seifried@seifried.org and listuser@seifried.org (my mailing list account).

How it gets done

You may have noticed the FrontPage tags in the LASG and wondered what the hell they were doing there. Well it is time to share my awful secret:

I wrote the LASG in Word 97 originally, and moved it into HTML, and maintain it in FrontPage.

The shame and horror.... But realistically I tried all the available HTML editing tools, and none compare (yet) to FrontPage for idiot proofed ease of use, spell check, easy link maintenance and so forth. So the LASG master copy is stored on my NT Server (which I use as a workstation), and maintained via FrontPage, but how does it get to you?

Through the magic of TCP-IP and a variety of file transfer methods.

The first stage is to move it off the internal NT box, this is done via ftp (once an hour) and the perl script "mirror". This script also allows me to easily strip all the vti directories and stuff FrontPage spackles in there. Once on my Linux server a daily tarball is created, and the symlink is refreshed. From there one of the SecurityPortal.com servers simply mirrors it daily (at 4am local time or so), via rsync (which works really well). From there all the SecurityPortal.com servers grab it via rsync, thus making the content on multiple servers identical in near-time.

The reason it is done like this is simply because it was easy to automate (100% in fact) and works well (no problems in several months).
