High energy group
The Arcetri high energy astrophysics group carries out research activity in Astroparticle Physics, with a long-standing record of results in the investigation of several non-thermal phenomena that range from acceleration and propagation of high energy and ultra-high energy cosmic rays to the modeling of pulsars and their environment, from dark matter annihilation to non-thermal processes at work during the large scale structure formation of the universe, from positrons and cosmic antimatter to the physics of compact astrophysical objects, where strong gravity rules.
The research activity of the Group is mainly on the theoretical side, although our work plays an important role in the planning of scientific objectives of experiments and telescopes aimed at investigating the high energy universe, as well as being used to interpret the wealth of data that shed light on the violent universe from Earth and from Space.
