Platform Destruction: August 30, 1999

Basin Pipe and Metal (subcontractors) were on site today to destruct the enclosure platform and begin drilling mounting holes. But, first things first.

With a bright clear morning, Alan Uomoto/JH dismantles the blue camera from the spectrograph, and the French and Carlos move the engineering camera away from the telescope for storage. The enclosure is rolled off the telescope for the day in preparation of the platform and HVAC work.

One of the projects is to drill the mounting holes through the pier for the HVAC bracket. The pilot holes are drilled but work is deferred to Aug. 31 when the bracket arrives.

Work then begins on the enclosure platform destruction. (argh, argh, argh)

More destruction! (the cylinder is CO2)

(more pictures on Aug. 31)

Our friend, Carl.
