Todays crew: Connie, Shu-i, Lrry, Mark, Dave, Jon Brinkmann and helpful instrument hints from Jim Gunn
The back end of the echelle is prepared to lift to the observing level. A plumb line (using Jon B.'s car keys) is used to check the level of the instrument.
And up it goes (with a lot of prayers).
The back end travels past the intermediate level and appears on the observing level.
The crew begins to lower the back end down into the hold area and to the rear of the echelle. Note the cutaway in the floor. (the floor hatch is already removed)
One minor hitch that worked out. Dave and Larry had to kick back the flooring about an inch to make room for the spreader supporting the back end. Not to worry, the flooring was kicked back once the piece was in place.
Getting ready to remove the plexiglass cover on the tank and the plate across the back end.
An inside look to the bottom of the tank and the front end of the back.
The back end meets the tank and Connie and Shu-i tighten the mounting bolts. Can you believe it!
The assembled CARCES is mounted and counter-balanced. They are pumping on the camera this evening.
