Ron Miksa, Carl Lindenmeyer, and John Korienek, as well as Steve Bastian (all from FNL), were on site to install the new manipulator arm in the 2.5m support building. Not to break tradition, these photos are of the completed installation and those hard working folks are not pictured.

This is a complete view of the installed arm. Metal runners are mounted to the building at top and bottom. Note that the bay door is open.
John Brinkmann was kind enough to operate the arm for me, he is pictured in the following photos.
The arm swings out from the body of the manipulator, and the assembly is moved along the metal runners to position it in front of the plate cartridge.
The arm is then positioned to latch onto the side of the plate cartridge
The latches are secured and the cartridge is manipulated over to the bay door area.
These pictures will remain on this site until 10/16/98 and then stored. Photos taken by Gretchen Van Doren/APO.
