The new 3-ton hoist (with enclosed motor and winch area, and more responsive controls) arrived yesterday afternoon. The mfg. rep arrived this morning and work started in ernest to install the new hoist andr emove the old. These pictures do not include taking the old hoist off; imagine the installation backwards!

At the daily 8:30am 2.5m telescope activity meeting, the crew discusses how to accomplish the transition. French Leger/UW, Mark Klaene, Jon Davis and Ron Yarger from APO, Larry Fiscelli/UC and Steve Bastian/FNL lended a hand for the day.
It's the big blue thing under the plastic cover!
The pier is covered (foreground to background) the forklift, new hoist, scissor-lift, wind baffle, secondary support, telescope and building. There must be something else we could put out there!
The equipment positioned for the switch.
The old hoist (on left), the new hoist (on right). Control an power cabling will travel along the roof.
The mfg's rep works on removing the old hoist.
The removal process and installation of power and control cables goes on this afternoon and is expected to be complete today (at least French expects it to!)
It is VERY windy today. Efforts to completely tarp the wind baffle and secondary support were stymied by the sometimes >30 mph winds.
