SDSS Spectrograph

#1 Spectrograph

(captions precede photos)

A few pictures on the progress of the #1 spectrograph. Currently residing in the work area on a lab bench, the spectrograph is powered and connected to the network.

This view shows the area where the collimating mirror is mounted (behind the black plate). The protruding pistons are attached to the corrector motors. Also, the spectrograph's black mounting plates are visible on top of the blue case.

The spectrograph's computer controls are displayed with its power source and Xyplex computer connection active on top of the case.

The blue CCD as it would attach to the spectrograph is demonstrated. Its computer controls are to the right.

And also the red CCD with its controls to the left.

This cover panel on the back is to protect the interior optics. Color photos of the interior optics are available from Dan Long/APO.

A small portion of the fiber cartridge is reproduced for use in testing the spectrograph.

Lots of things have been added to the space in support of assemblying the second spectrograph. It was delivered in February (sorry pictures not avaiable) and resides in the bottom of the 3.5m enclosure.

Congratulations to Alan Uomoto/JHU and his team for their efforts.

Pictures taken by Gretchen Van Doren/Apache Point Observatory.
