GRIM Line Comparison Plots

These line plots were made by placing an Ar discharge lamp and power supply about 8 inches away from GRIM's entrance window. Exposure times varied widely, from the minimum 1.2 s for J in f/5 mode to more than five minutes for Ks at f/10 and higher. Expect that exposures will be considerably longer when the instrument is mounted on the telescope due to the distance to the rather dim Ar lamps. For most purposes, we advise that observers request a setup similar to the one used here for getting Ar lamp wavecals. Here are the plots:

For the moment, these line identifications are tentative. The low resolution of GRIM yields broad lines that make it difficult to distinguish blends, so these are the best guesses. They are backed by dispersion solutions for line spectra with rms values of only a couple Angstroms, but in the case of blends, specific lines may not be properly identified. If you use these charts and find any errors, please contact the Observing Specialists. More properly-labeled plots will follow once the ID's are confirmed.
