Version 3.1
-----------

As of this version, XmTel is considered stable for routine use. and it is useful
for the control of telescopes for both amateur and professional uses. If you
find something that does not work as expected, or if you would like a feature
that is not here, let me know with an email message to kielkopf@louisville.edu.
Please include "xmtel" in the message subject line.

XmTel does not yet include the suite of pointing corrections that are already in
the menu system (but disabled). Two corrections are enabled in this version --
a simple offset from a reference star, and atmospheric refraction. With the
offset correction a well-aligned small telescope will point to arc minute
accuracy and well enough to put an object in a CCD camera field of view. The
additional corrections for flexure and mounting error will refine the
positioning and in precisely encoded professional telescopes enable pointing to
arc second accuracy. We expect to have at least some of them available soon as
they are developed and tested.

Other features planned:

A method to pass information about the telecope to camera control
software (particularly our own XmCCD) so that FITS image headers can
contain field coordinates.

A separate daemon process for the lx200 and nexstar telescopes that will allow a
user to run xmtel on a local computer which then communicates with hardware
attached to a remote computer. At the present time, remote operation for the
lx200 or nexstar telescopes requires that xmtel runs on the remote computer and
transports an X11 display to the observer's console through ssh.

Command line and scripting versions that do not use a GUI and that would
enable queue scheduled observing in a robotic system.
