Leaders welcome families individually as they arrive and encourage them to jump right in and work with the station activities. Also spend some time at each station encouraging or helping participants.If snacks are provided, point them out and allow families to snack while exploring the stations. Leaders call the group together, making sure that everyone has signed in and has a name badge, and then explain the evening's agenda.

Family members invent a constellation and share with group. Families construct a Starfinder and get practice using it indoors. Leaders review with families all the materials in their take-home kits and how to use them, emphasizing use of the "A Celestial Treasure Hunt" booklet. Families appreciate this opportunity to give feedback and their comments may help you plan your next activity.

Star Clock

Last session everyone did a full Starfinder, a simple version of this is the Star Clock that uses the stars of the Big Dipper to tell time. Before going outside, review check-list from the "A Celestial Treasure Hunt" booklet (make sure everyone has a red filtered flashlight, their Starfinder and the "A Celestial Treasure Hunt" booklet). Move outside (weather permitting) and do the complete Celestial Treasure Hunt for the current season. It will give families more confidence using their Starfinder and booklet at home. Families appreciate this opportunity to give feedback and their comments may help you plan your next activity.
