Scientists involved with the search for planets around other stars are gathering at NASA Ames Dec. 5 - 9 for a technical conference devoted to the Kepler spacecraft discoveries.
Tuesday evening, Dec. 6th, there will be a public event from 7 to 10 pm at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View. The evening is free, but you must reserve tickets at the Eventbrite web site: http://keplerpublictalk.eventbrite.com/(where you can find more information and directions.)
Participants include Dr. Natalie Batalha, a superb public speaker, who has a real knack for explaining scientific discoveries in everyday language.

Topic: The Status of SETI in 2011

Dr. Frank Drake, the scientist who pioneered the search for intelligent life in the universe, will give a rare public lecture to a meeting of the Peninsula Astronomical Society. The talk is free and open to the public, but parking on campus costs $2.00. Parking Lot 5 is closest to the lecture hall.
Dr. Drake will discuss the past, present, and future of the search for signs of intelligence among the stars, including the newer technique called 'Optical SETI'.
