NSTA Conferences 2012

NSTA conferences offer the latest in science content, teaching strategy, and research, all presented by science educators who want to enhance and expand their professional growth. They also offer featured speakers, educational field trips, short courses, exciting social events, and the largest exhibition of science materials around.

NSTA generally hosts four conferences each year - a national conference in the spring and three regional conferences in the fall.

Stephen Hawking is the Lucasian Professor at Cambridge University (the professorship once held by Sir Isaac Newton). For the past 45 years he has been a world leader in research on black holes, the birth of the universe, and the nature of space, time and gravity.  

In his portion of his live, in person evening presentations (Entitled: Out of a Black Hole) Dr. Hawking will explain that black holes aren't as black as they are painted. Things can get out of a black hole to the outside and, possibly, on to another universe.

Astrobiology Summer Science Experience for Teachers (ASSET)

July 22 - 29, 2012
San Francisco State University

This summer institute for high school teachers will be intense and exciting, interactive and content rich, with presentations by leading astrobiology researchers from the SETI Institute, NASA, and the California Academy of Sciences.  Scientists will share the latest in astrobiology research on the origin of life on Earth, the extreme conditions in which life exists, Mars exploration, the formation of planetary systems around Sun-like stars, and the search for life in the universe.  Participants receive the entire Voyages Through Time / /(VTT) curriculum and complementary astrobiology materials, for use in their classrooms. VTT is a standards-based integrated high school science curriculum, delivered on CDS. Visit http://www.voyagesthroughtime.org/ for details. International Max Planck Research School for Astronomy & Cosmic Physics at the University of Heidelberg (IMPRS-HD)

7th Heidelberg Summer School:
Computational Astrophysics: Physical Foundations & Numerical Techniques
September 10-14, 2012

IMPRS Heidelberg invites graduate students and postdocs to its 7th Heidelberg Summer School.

The school covers important topics in computational astrophysics, highlighting both the physical foundations and the numerical techniques for simulations of the formation and evolution of cosmic structures on a variety of scales. The primary lecture courses will cover N-body techniques for collisionless and collisional systems, numerical fluid dynamics with particle-based and mesh-based techniques, magnetohydrodynamics, radiative transfer, as well as modern trends in high-performance computing techniques. The program is complemented with short lectures on topics such as chemical reaction networks, kinetic approaches, or special matrix solvers.
