Summer Earth and Space Science Workshops for Teachers!
Explore the most recent developments in our understanding of the universe and the Earth's climate, with science content and resources tied directly to national and local standards. Join us in Baltimore, Mar yland from July 30­August 3, 2011 for one or more of the following:

Weekend 2-Day Workshop, July 30­31
· In the Footsteps of Galileo: A Hands-on Workshop on Astronomy for Teachers

Weekday 3-hour Short Courses, August 1­3
· Active Astronomy: Classroom Activities for Learning about the Electromagnetic Spectrum · Chasing Shadows: Bring NASA's Search for Earth-like Planets Around Other Stars to Your Classroom · Eye on the Sky: Exploring the Sun with Activities for the Elementary Classroom · Light and Color in the Night Sky, in the City, and in the Classroom · Evidence-based Science: Climate in the Classroom · Global AND Local: Activity-based Explorations Connecting Global Climate Change to Change in Students' Own Communities Presenters include outstanding scientists and education specialists from NASA, other agencies, and universities, with experience sharing authentic science with teachers. Most sessions include classroom-ready activity handouts and resources. Some scholarship support is available to help with registration fees and travel expenses. These teacher professional development opportunities are a part of "Connecting People to Science," a national education and public outreach conference, July 31­August 3, presented by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific in partnership with the American Geophysical Union and the Space Telescope Science Institute.

Founded in 1889, the Astronomical Society of the Pacific is the largest and most active astronomy education organization in the U.S., devoted to advancing scientific literacy through astronomy.

Weekend 2-Day Workshop:
· In the Footsteps of Galileo: A Hands-on Workshop on Astronomy for Teachers
(Grades 3 ­ 12, Saturday and Sunday, July 30 ­ 31, $95*) Presented by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) and special guests, this workshop is part of the Galileo Teacher Training Program (GTTP). Includes activities on topics such as: phases of the Moon; exploring the planets; scale of the solar system; building a simple telescope for your class (kit included); environmental impacts of "light pollution"; and much more. No background in astronomy required! *Included in the fee is a Galileoscope kit and a brand new Universe at Your Fingertips DVD-ROM collection, with 133 complete activities and a wealth of other teaching resources.
