Why worry about light pollution right now, why not just go out and use the telescope, sure in time a light pollution filter might help but why spend more right away, go see what you can see and enjoy the views.
I have never tried a light pollution filter but I own a 10" dob and live in the city here, the messiers I can see from here I doubt would be much better with it,best thing for those faint fuzzies is clear dark,skys nothing beats that.
The planets look good even from light polluted skys, my best views of Jupiter have always been just after sunset but well before dark.
I would be really interested in hearing a report from you if you do get one though so please keep us posted.
