Well for Hawking radiation to exist, it is what gives black holes entropy, the event horizon must radiate half of a virtual particle pair and absorb the other half. The formula Hawking found for black hole entropy has been derived in several different ways- like from string theory, where Vafa just counted the number of modes in a black hole.

So based on that, I would question your premise.

Now I happen to believe that space is also absorbed by black holes. Its a published model called "The River Model" that I referenced below in this subforum. But some physicists disagree with this.
