Time essentially goes to infinity at the event horizon. That is, we can see light coming from any point outside of the event horizon, that is assuming we are being illuminated from that point. But as the point of illumination approaches the event horizon, it takes longer and longer for the light to reach us. Actually it spends most of the time near the event horizon, and what is finally radiated is reduced in frequency. The freq reduction is the same as time stretching. Light coming from very close to the event horizon is very close to zero frequency. That's why we cannot see inside the event horizon.
