Dust may generally be described as particles small enough to be lifted into the air. In our homes, we are the biggest source of dust. Next to plant pollen, household dust consists mostly of hair and skin cells as well as dust mites that eat these and add their feces to the dust. Outside our homes, atmospheric dust can be mineral dust, such as from a desert dust storm or a volcanic ash cloud, or from natural or industrial burning processes.
