Astro Answers – Icy Visitors: Comets and ISON

astroanswers2013cometison_250Icy Visitors: Comets and ISON – Nov 22nd, 2013
by Jaclyn Avidon

This winter, Comet ISON will whip around the Sun at hundreds of thousands of miles per hour, hopefully giving us a spectacular sky show in the process. But what exactly is a comet? Where do they come from and why can we see only some of them? And what makes this one so special, if it even is?

Come learn all this and much more in a comet primer. Be prepared and knowledgeable when the time comes to look up at the sky and observe ISON in what hopes to be a miraculous display.

Where: American Museum of Natural History – Kaufmann Theatre (enter on 77th st.)
When: November 22, 2013; 6:15pm – 8pm
