It's
back.... And this year we look forward to having
another
great time!
Hidden Hollow 2008
Phil Creed
So who is Phil Creed? He was First
"Bitten" by the Astronomy Bug on the night of the July 6,
1982, - total lunar eclipse (Age 8) . His special interests:
Deep-sky Observing and (especially) comet observing. He's observed
over 50 comets in his lifetime, starting with Halley's Comet.
There's a lot of people that want to live to 100; his goal is to
have all his senses intact at 88 so he can see Halley's twice, and
share the view with future grandkids!
This year, Phil will be hosting Astronomy
Bowl, an exciting question-and-answer game that'll both
enlighten and challenge the mind--for both the players and the
audience. See details below, or in the "Contest" section of
the web page."

ASTRONOMY BOWL at Hidden Hollow!
Think you know your star stuff? Do you get psyched when you see
that rare astronomy question on Jeopardy? How'd you like to put
your knowledge of the heavens to the test and walk away with a $100
gift certificate to OPT?
ASTRONOMY BOWL is the alternative for those that'd like to win a prize
but never get that smile from Lady Luck come Raffle Time. We
encourage you, of course, to take your chances with our raffle
prizes; you'll never win if you don't try.
But if you've always associated winning star party prizes with pure
chance, ASTRONOMY BOWL breaks that notion in a big way. Teams of up to
3 each will participate in an exciting question-and-answer forum
that's guaranteed to give the ol' noggin' a workout. Questions will
cover a variety of astronomical areas, including recent events, the
solar system, deep-sky objects, constellations, cosmology, famous
astronomers and even some pop-culture.
For those that remember the game "College Bowl", the format is very
similar. A toss-up question is first asked, and any contestant may
answer--but only that contestant, not any other member of their
team. If the toss-up is correctly answered, that team--and only
that team--is eligible for a bonus.
To make matters easier on the organizers of Hidden Hollow, we ask that your
team be registered by April 18, 2008
(If you didn't do it when you
registered - just email
hubalbd@netzero.net with the info). You can assign yourself a
team name, if you'd like. You can go with the geek angle (like,
say, "The Dead Sea Squirrels") or go for the jugular (for example,
"The Star Destroyers"). We only ask that you keep it clean.
We're looking forward to seeing you in May!
