Ken Hubal

Ken's been doing astronomy for almost forever - rumor has it that he knew Galileo personally, and that's why he's so fond of refractors!  Seriously, Ken's been an astronomer for over 35 years, including acquiring both Bachelors' and Master's degrees in Physics, as well as working in optics labs.

And he's practically done it all!  He's designed and built a number of telescopes, including grinding the mirrors and lenses.  He's also built a number of specialized solar astronomical instruments and regularly submits data to the American Association of Variable Star Observers, Solar Section..

Join Ken in making sure you observe the sun safely!

You asked for it? You got it. The Hidden Hollow weekend Star Party at Warren Rupp Observatory will be back again this year the weekend of May 2nd - 4th!

Workshops

Make-and-Take Solar Filter

This year we plan on having another "make-and-take" solar filter workshop! Join Ken Hubal - an avid solar astrronomer with a background in solar physics and optics - as he instructs you how to make your own Baader solar filter for your telescope or binoculars.  As you can see, our guests last year had a fantastic time making solar filters for everything from binoculars to large Dobsonians. Be sure to join us again for this fun and valuable workshop offered Friday night and Saturday morning!

 Astronomical Image Processing

Our second workshop will deal with  Astrophoto Image Processing. Mike is the developer of the ImagesPlus camera control and astronomical image processing software, which was listed as a "hot product" by Sky & Telescope in 2004.   He currently sells ImagesPlus 3.0 software through MLUnsold Digital Imaging.  Mike will be giving a workshop taking raw digital images and going through the enhancing process.  Anyone having imagesPlus is welcome to bring their laptop and work with their own data.   The workshop is  anticipated to last about 2 hours.
