Erasmus Mundus isšanšeducational program ofšthe European Union, the main objective ofšwhich isštošpromote international cooperation and tošincrease mobility among students, faculty, researchers ofšhigher education institutions inšthird countries. Trying tošturn thešEU into the world leader inšeducation and European universitiesš? into knowledge and innovation centers, Erasmus Mundus programme also aims atšpromoting mutual understanding between people, encouraging the intercultural dialogue.
Erasmus Mundus programme was launched byšthe European Union foršEU non-member countries inš2004. Graduate students and researchers from different countries including Ukraine have anšopportunity tošreceivešEU grants tošcontinue their studies oršconduct research atšhigher scientific institutions ofšEU countries.
Erasmus Mundus was created asšašresponse tošthe challenges that the present-day higher education system isšfacing: preparing European citizens for life inšašglobalized multicultural society based onšknowledge and education, improving the quality and attractiveness ofšEuropean higher education. Such principles conform tošthe Lisbon strategy ofšthešEU, according tošwhich the governments ofšthešEU member states are committed tošmaking European economy competitive and capable ofšdynamic development while making the European higher education system affordable and ofšthe best quality inšthe world. The Programme also supports Bologna process implementation byšencouraging recognition ofšacademic degrees and helping university education become international.
