Biological station was founded in 1914 near Haidary village (Zmiiv District, about 50 km from Kharkiv) in a very picturesque oak-grove (Homolsha National Park) on the steep bank of the Siverskyi Donets River. The first Ukrainian biological research station was established at the initiative of V.M. Arnoldi, who himself picked the location for it. Thousands of biologists will never forget beautiful nature, great variety of flora and fauna, classes in the open and ?The Biologist?s Day?. The Station is a base for training first and second year students, third and fourth year students majoring in Botany, Zoology, Mycology and Genetics have their work training. In addition the Station provides facilities for studying flora and fauna, genetic and breeding projects, groundhog domestication. The Station is also a Center for Regional Ecological Monitoring of Chemical Pollution in North-East Ukraine.
