V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has long traditions of international cooperation. The University emphasizes the development of international relations, in particular, with foreign higher educational institutions; sends faculty, staff, and students to other countries to attend research conferences, undertake research and in-depth training, take foreign language courses, etc. The university also receives foreign experts. Faculty, staff, undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students actively participate in competitions to receive scholarships and grants from various international organizations and foundations.
Since 1974 V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University has been a full member of the International Association of Universities/UNESCO, an international association with over 150 member states which cooperates with a joint network of international and national organizations. In 1998 the University signed the Magna Charta Universitatum, the document which reflects fundamental values and rights of European universities, university autonomy and academic freedom. The Charta was initiated by the European University Association and the University of Bologna (Italy). In 1989 the University was one of the founders and since then has been a full member of the Eurasian Universities Association, a non-governmental voluntary universities organization of the Eurasian area. Since 2003 the University has been listed in the World directory of medical schools of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Medical Education Directory [IMED] of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research [FAIMER] (USA). In January 2004 the University became a full individual member of the European University Association. In March 2010 the University was admitted to the European Nuclear Education Network [ENEN] Association as an associated member.
Now the University cooperates with 125 HEIs and organisations worldwide.
Joint research conducted by the Kharkiv National University scientists and their counterparts from partner HEI/organisations is one of the main international activity areas. The most efficient cooperation is realised with Belarusian State University (Belarus); St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo, Sofia University ?St. Kliment Ohridski?, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Bulgaria); Anhui University (China); Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, Max-Planck Institute of Plasma Physics (Germany); University of Gda?sk, Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan (Poland); Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russian Academy of Sciences Institute for Nuclear Research (Russia), as well as with the universities from the Transborder Belarusian-Russian-Ukrainian University Consortium.
