Exhibition ?A minus ad major: Notes telling their story? to celebrate University?s 208th Anniversary
Within the framework of celebrations on the occasion of the 208th Anniversary the University History Museum held a unique exhibition “A minus ad major: Notes telling their story”.
The exhibition displayed documents and exhibits kept in the Holdings of the History Museum and the Division of Rare Editions and Manuscripts of the Central Research Library of the University, namely student notes, notebooks, vocabularies; lecturers’ lecture notes; lithographs of notes, cribs. Among the documents provided for the exhibition there are real rarities – the first notes made in Latin, studentry-time notes made by the famous mathematician D. M. Sintsov, Russian historian A. S. Biazihin, a notebook of astronomer M. P. Barabashov as a student.
The exhibition also displayed M. Y. Kryshtofovych's diary on his trip from Moscow to St. Petersburg dated 1893 and his field journal “Eskhar” (1925), Professor M. I. Yellinskyi’s lectures on surgery (1887), Academicain O. I. Akhiiezer’s lecture notes (1940) and the like. The oldest exhibit, G. Bulgakov’s student notes, is dated 1804 and is almost as old as the University itself.
A great contribution to the organization of the exhibition was made by the students of the School of History who were the ones to look for the rare editions in the archive of the Museum under the supervision of its workers.
