The Academic Board of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University as to Situation In Ukraine is shocked by the tragic events in Kyiv. The irreparable has happened: blood was shed, people were killed. We grieve for the fallen and sympathize with their family and friends. We appeal to the authorities and political forces to spare no efforts in returning Ukraine to peaceful, democratic, tolerant meas of settlement of political problems and disagreements in order to prevent further fratricide.

We, members of the University Academic Board, believe it necessary to state that changes in the political system that have already taken place and are still to come have to ensure that the constitutional rights and freedoms of the citizens as well as the unity and sovereignty of the state are observed.

Ukraine will not become a competitive state in the world and will not ensure settlement of its social problems without advanced development of educational, scientific and technological spheres. And long overdue reforms in education, approval of the new Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education” meant to grant higher educational institutions not declarative, but real autonomy, to enhance the quality of professional training of competitive human capital assets and to strengthen the research component of education are gaining priority importance.

The Academic Board state that the University community will continue working on development of national science and education, minding the interests of the students of the University, actively participating in the initiatives aiming at consolidation of Ukrainian society, scientific and technological progress of the country, extanding international cooperation.
