Delegation from Paris-Sud University Visits Karasin University
A delegation from Paris-Sud University came on a working visit to Karazin University on February 12-14, 2014. The delegation comprised Doctors of Sciences from the Linear Accelerator Laboratory at Orsay Science Center (France) Serhii Barsuk, Leonid Burmistrov, Marie-Hélène Shune and Doctor of Science Maksym Tytov from the Institute of Research into the Fundamental Laws of the Universe, the French Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission.
The visit was paid in pursuance of the Interuniversitary Agreement on Cooperation Between the University of Paris-Sud XI and V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University signed last year. The event was initiated by the Head of the Department of Nuclear and Medical Physics of the School of Physics and Technology, Director of A. I. Akhiezer Institute of Theoretical Physics of the National Science Center “Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology”, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor Honoris Causa of Karazin University Mykola Shulha.
The delegates and the representatives of the Embassy of France in Ukraine, namely Counsellor on Cooperation and Cultural Activity, Director of the Institute France-Ukraine at the Embassy of France in Ukraine Eric Tosatti and Attaché on Research and Academic Cooperation of the Institute France-Ukraine / Cooperation and Cultural Activity Service of the Embassy of France Gilles Mametz, had a meeting with Vice-President, Academician Mykola Azarienkov, Dean of the School of Physics and Technology, Professor Ihor Hirka, Professor Oleksandr Korchyn, Associate Professor Serhii Fomin, Director of the Center for International Cooperation, Associate Professor Olena Shapovalova, Head of the Department of International Activity Organization Oleksandr Fadieiev.
The matters discussed during the meeting included fulfilment of the Interunversitary Agreement on Cooperation Between the Universities, coordination of the working schedule of students’ academic mobility, organization of the exchange of academic researchers to conduct classes and exchange programs for young researchers, possibilities to hold joint conferences and to execute research projects for the purpose of sharing experience using advanced and innovative learning technologies.
For reference. The University of Paris-Sud XI (L’université Paris—Sud XI) is a French state university specializing in exact sciences. According to the annual Academic Ranking of World Universities, it ranks among the top 50 best higher educational institutions of the world.
The university has over 100 research laboratories with almost 2,500 highly skilled experimental scientists working therein, 5 research institutes and an “Engineering School”. In particular, the research activities of the Linear Accelerator Laboratory are focused on studying elementary particle physics, primarily in the field of cosmology and astrophysics. A number of former and currently working professors of the University of Paris-Sud XI were awarded the Nobel Prize and the Fields Medal.
