On October 2, 2012 “Kharkiv courtyards” exhibition opens at Karazin University. It will display the best works of the III City Local History Competition of artistic research pieces, organized by Director of G. Khotkevych Museum of Ethnography “Slobozhanski Skarby” (“Treasures of Sloboda Ukraine”) of the National Technical University “KhPI” M. Krasykov.

This year’s show has gathered about 50 participants including famous masters of photography V. Ohloblin and I. Laptiev, artists O. Shylo, O. Lysenko, R. Ahasian and V. Shulika as well as students of V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, National Technical University “KhPI”, H. S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, State Academy of Design and Arts, Art School and pupils of I. Repin Arts School.

The competition participants have not only made drawings and photographs of old buildings and courtyards, but have attempted to learn something about their history, savor the atmosphere of the past. Under the competition terms, each work is to be accompanied by an essay on the depicted Kharkiv courtyard and a historical reference regarding the represented building.

ГThe main aim of the project is to call Kharkivites’ attention to the beauty of the Old Kharkiv by creating a fragmentary sketch of its particular nooks and thus preserve the image of the city and its dwellers of the last century for the generations to come.

The exhibition is held at the Central Scientific Library of Karazin University (Main Building, 4, Svobody Sq., Kharkiv).
