Department of physical and biomedical electronics and integrated information technology is a leading department of Radiophysics faculty of V.N. Karazin Kharkiv National University and prepare bachelors and masters in two specialties: "Radiophysics and Electronics" in direction "Applied Physics" and "Physical and Biomedical Electronics" in direction "Micro-and nanoelectronics.

Department of physical and biomedical electronics and integrated information technology, up to 2007 Department of semiconductor and vacuum electronics, founded in 1974 on the basis of specialization in ?Semiconductor physics? of the department of "Electronics" and the Problem Laboratory of Semiconductor Technology of Kharkov State University.

The department has initiated the preparation of professionals able to join in their work the achievements in modern physics, radiophysics, chemistry, biology and medicine. To solve this problem, it was decided to open a new specialty - Physical and biomedical electronics, and in 2004 our department received a license of MES of Ukraine for specialist training in this specialty.

The scientific work is involving all teachers and staff of the department, as well as students of the Physical and Biomedical Electronics, Radiophysics and Electronics specialties. In addition, separate research projects involving students from other disciplines. The scientific fields of research of the department include:

  • Study of physical phenomena and processes in semiconductors and their compounds under the influence of strong electric fields, as well as ultraviolet and gamma radiations;
  • Creation of mm- wave range generators, studying their characteristics;
  • Investigation of multivariate interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter, including bio-availability;
  • Determination of physical and physico-chemical properties of biological media and the creation on their basis of new elements and tools for biomedical electronics;
  • Creation of physical and mathematical models of interaction between non-stationary electromagnetic fields with biological objects and the study of the propagation of electromagnetic waves RAMs and UHF bands.

At the department is created the original microprocessor devices for registration of biomedical indicators. Studies are under way to build computer systems for medical diagnostics, development of new types of biosensors for solving medical problems.

Faculty and staff of the Department reserved 4 doctoral and 35 master's theses, published 8 monographs, 15 textbooks, 40 guidelines on various courses taught in the department, more than 700 articles and presented over 300 papers in international and national conferences, symposia, received more than 35 inventor's certificates.
