Meteorological system with the Geostationary Operational Meteorological Satellite
ELECTRO ( GOMS )

Russian (WIN)

The Planeta-C Meteorological Space System includes the Geostationary Operational Meteorological Satellite GOMS (launched on October 31, 1994) located in orbit at stationary point over 76° 50' E.

Onboard instruments package allows:

  • - obtaining in real time visible and infrared images of the Earth surface and cloud cover within a radius of 60° 50' centred at subsatellite point;
  • - providing continious observation of the dinamics of varying atmosheric processes;
  • - detecting, on an operational basis, hazardous natural phenomena;
  • - determining wind velocity and directions at several levels, sea surface temperature;
  • - obtaining information on fluxes of solar and galactic particles, electromagnetic ultraviolet and X-ray radiation, variations in the vector of magnetic field.

Radio engeneering complex, in addition to TV and geliogeophysical data transmission from the spacecraft, will collect hydrometeorological, ecological and other data from DCP's, exchange initial and processed data from meteorological and environmental satellites among ground-based centers, deliver on an operational basis the information to a user.

Radiation-measuring and magnetometry system

The system is designed to control the penetrating radiation spectra and density in the near-Earth surface magnetic field state. The system records the following helioheophisical information (HGI):

  • - the density of electron fluexs with energies in four bands from 0.04 MeV to 1.7 MeV;
  • - the density of proton fluexs with energies in four bands from 0.5 MeV to 90.0 MeV;
  • - the density of alpha particles fluexs with energies from 2 MeV to 12.0 MeV;
  • - intensity of galactic cosmic radiation with energies greater than 600 MeV;
  • - solar X-ray radiation intensity with energies from 2 A to 10 A;
  • - intensity of solar ultraviolet radiation in four wave bands up to 1300 A;
  • - magnetic induction vector component quantities along the three axes with7 +0 180 nT interval.

Radio downlink characteristics

Spaceborn radio engeneering complex allows:

  • - sensor (TV, IR) data and heliogeophisical information (HGI) transmission to data receiving and processing centers at a rate of up to 2.56 Mbps;
  • - data commutation link (960 kbit/s);
  • - data transmission and collection (60 kbit/s);
  • - data collection from DCP's at a rate of up to 100 bit/s from a platform;
  • - analog and facsimile data transmission (2400 bit/s).

Frequencies allocated for data collection and transmission:

  • 1.76 GHz - TV- and heliogeophysical information and DCLI's data transmission to data receiving and processing centers;
  • 7.5 GHz - TV- and heliogeophisical data transmission to data receiving and processing centers;
  • 1.7 GHz - transmission (relay) of digital, alphanumeric, and facsimile information processed at the receiving centers to APPI's;
  • 0.47 GHz - transmission of call signals from a spacecraft to DCLI;
  • 0.402 GHz - data transmission from DCP;
  • 2.1 GHz - receipt of processed alphanumeric and facsimile information;
  • 8.2 GHz - receipt of processed TV (or any multizonal) information to be transmitted to other receiving centers or APPIs.
