Measurement principle
The satellite spectrophotometer FAGOT is designed for measurement of intensity of night ionosphere emissions in spectral range of 420-900 nm and their height distribution within interval of 50-200 km.
There is an additional zenith photometer channel for measurement of emissions formed heights more than 500 km to take into account the processes connected with solar activity and high layers of ionosphere.
Experiment configuration and heritage
Spectrophotometer is made up of the four units:
1. Photometer BP-1
2. Photometer BP-2
3. Spectrometer BP-3
4. Data processing unit (BE) placed in hermetic volume.
Direction of optical axis:
Photometers: BP-1 - to zenith, BP-2 - to nadir.
Spectrometer: Limb channel at angle 18 deg to satellite velocity vector in the plane «velocity vector-nadir», scanning takes place within +5 - -30 deg to optic axis in the plane «velocity vector-nadir»;
Nadir channel: nadir, scanning takes place within ± 20 deg to optic axis in the plane with perpendicular «velocity vector»; Flat scanning mirror is used to measure spatial distributions of emissions intensity in direction perpendicular to the vehicle orbit track.
Each photometer and spectrometer incorporates a sensor that autocomally shuts down the photometer when the sun (or other light sours) enters the 10 deg field of view of the sensor, the restricted field of view the photometer and spectrometer.
The photometer has flown twice (APEX). The electronics will be upgraded for WARNING.
