Moon Week

2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the first manned Moon landing by Neil Armstrong as part of the Apollo 11 mission on July 20th 1969. To celebrate, the National Museum of Ireland is hosting a "Moon Week" from Sunday 19th to Saturday 25th July in "The Dead Zoo" exhibition at Collins Barracks. Events will include special presentation entitled "Shake, Rattle and Roll:  What it really felt like to watch men leave for the Moon".

Our Moon Week events are:

"Shake, Rattle and Roll: What it really felt like to watch men leave for the Moon"
Sun 19th July, 2.30pm and 3.30pm (Age 12+) 
Using High Definition pictures and some ear-splitting sound effects, broadcaster Leo Enright recreates the launch of Apollo 11 like you have never seen, heard or felt it before!

"A Hundred Thousand Stars"
Sun 19th July, 2-4pm (Age 6+)
Come into the Discovery Den and make your own solar system!

"Inspectorium! It Came from Outer Space..."
Weds 22nd, Thurs 23rd and Sat 25th July, 2-4pm (All Ages)
Join Geology curator Matthew Parkes in the Discovery Den to look and handle meteorites that are billions of years old

"Gallery Talk - Planet Earth: Our place in Space"
Sat 25th, 12pm- 12.30pm (Age 14+)
Geology curator Matthew Parkes presents a walk and talk through our "Plant Earth" exhibition in the Riding School.
