Second Wettest October on Record

Armagh Observatory reports that October was much wetter, duller and warmer than average.

Precipitation amounted to 182.5 mm, which is well over twice the average for October. This means that last month had the highest rainfall of any October since 1870 (193.2 mm or 7.63 inches) and was the second wettest October since records began in 1838.

The total number of hours of sunshine was 59.2, that is, about 30% less than average.

The mean monthly temperature was 11.5 degrees Celsius (52.7 degrees Fahrenheit), which is just over 1 degree Celsius above average for October. There were four nights with grass frost.
