Armagh Observatory

May Slightly Wetter and Warmer than Usual

Armagh Observatory reports that the weather in May was slightly wetter, sunnier and warmer than average.

Precipitation amounted to 68.8 mm (2.71 inches), that is, about 14% more than the monthly average.

The number of hours of sunshine was 182.3, that is, about 5% greater than the average for May.

The mean monthly temperature was 11.6 degrees Celsius (52.8 degrees Fahrenheit), which is about three-quarters of a degree Celsius higher than normal for May. The maximum temperature recorded was 19.2 degrees C on the 1st, while the lowest air temperature was 3.4 C on the 18th. There were no nights with grass or air frost.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
