August Drier Than Average

Armagh Observatory reports that the weather in August was considerably drier and slightly duller than normal.

The monthly rainfall recorded was 46.1 mm (1.81 in), which is about 43% lower than the average for August.

The total number of hours of sunshine was 118.6, which is about 11% below average.

The mean monthly temperature was 14.5 degrees Celsius (58.2 degrees Fahrenheit), which is very slightly below average. The maximum temperature recorded last month was 22.4 degrees Celsius on the 4th. The lowest air temperature was 6.4 degrees Celsius on the 19th. Hail was recorded on the 24th.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
