"aroundNorth" MUSICAL COMPETITION

Robert Jarvis, a sound artist, has been short-listed for the 2010 New Music Award of the Performing Rights Society Foundation for his "aroundNorth" musical composition. The piece, which has been inspired by the rotation of the stars around the celestial North Pole is intended to become a permanent sound installation in the grounds of the Armagh Observatory. Based on a variety of astronomical parameters, the sounds will be triggered as the stars cross equally spaced lines of longitude radiating from Celestial North.

The 2010 New Music Award is given for artistic accomplishments, and if "aroundNorth" is successful the prize will go towards the creation and performance of the proposed new work. All short-listed entries will be judged by a six-member panel in September, and anyone can become involved by registering their vote on the competition website: www.prsformusicfoundation.com. You can see an online video of Robert's composition at: www.prsformusicfoundation.com.
