Humid August

Armagh Observatory reports that the weather in August was wetter and slightly warmer than normal.

The monthly rainfall recorded was 126.2 mm (5.0 in), which is about 55% more than the August average. This compares with 151.4 mm in August 2008 and 110.0 mm in 2007. The highest August rainfall in Armagh, since records began in 1838, occurred in 1892 (178.9 mm or 7.04 in).

The mean monthly temperature was 15.5 degrees Celsius (59.9 degrees Fahrenheit), that is, about 0.8 C above average. The maximum temperature recorded was 21.1 degrees Celsius, on the 5th and 17th.

The total number of hours of sunshine was 123, that is, about 8% lower than average.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
